How can pubs capitalise on the increase in contactless payments?

Contactless payments are ever-growing. According to MasterCard, over 50% of all global transactions are now made using contactless. As a pub or venue, this cannot be ignored, as customer habits continue to change. Whilst it isn’t uncommon for your bar to take card, contactless and cash payments, what about the rest of your pub?

Jukeboxes

For many pubs, the jukebox is such a crucial way to ensure customers are having a great time, staying for longer and ultimately spending more money. The newest jukebox systems such as the TouchTunes Angelina and the NSM Atom are revolutionizing the way in which payment is taken to listen to music.

For those who don’t carry cash, the old jukebox systems are unattractive, as they will need to bother bar staff with cashback. Especially at busy times, this could affect the smooth running of the bar.

Now, jukeboxes allow contactless payment, meaning anyone can play their favourite music. It also means they are more likely to continue choosing songs, long after they would have run out of coins.

But it isn’t just contactless, they also have accompanying apps allowing customers to queue songs from the comfort of their seats, and have an account linked to all their favourite tracks. The TouchTunes app is an excellent example of this, as users can add tokens in bulk, saving them money, but also increasing token purchases as a result.

Pool Tables

Unlike jukeboxes, pool tables have remained relatively unchanged over the years. We all remember the row of coins signalling the turn of the next player.

Pool is a sport that has been passed down through the generations and now with the emergence of contactless pool tables, a new generation of cashless players can start playing and hone their skills.

Young people are less likely to carry cash than ever before, and without it, they may not be able to play pool. The notion of contactless is to make customers’ lives easer, so this is something that should be reflected across the whole pub, not just the bar.

Competitive Socialing Solutions

If you have any competitive socialising systems in your pub, such as interactive darts or shuffleboard, then you can also use contactless to take payment for these.

As these are relatively new systems in general, the option for contactless should already be enabled. If not, speak to the team here at SX Leisure and we can advise on your options.

Contactless payment isn’t going away. Whilst cash will still play a big part in your pub’s ecosystem, it’s important to future-proof your entire entertainment offering. After all, you will be reaching a whole new audience when you do.
